Finnish Ski Area Association Joins the White Winters Program

The Finnish Ski Area Association (FSAA) – publisher of Ski.fi – has joined the White Winters program as a strategic partner. White Winters is an initiative developed by Solved and Ski Sport Finland, aiming to fast-track climate-positive and environmentally responsible solutions in ski and tourism centers, events, and the sports industry.

The goal is to make skiing more sustainable while also increasing its popularity. The initiative benefits recreational skiers, athletes, sports federations, destinations, and solution providers alike.

The program is part of the sustainability strategy of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). Together with national federations and event organizers, FIS is working to build a more sustainable future for winter sports.

Strong Commitment to Sustainability in Finland

Through this collaboration, ski resorts gain access to White Winters tools including a global database, best practices, proven solutions, and a resort assessment tool developed by the White Winters program.

The assessment tool helps resorts systematically identify and advance their sustainability efforts. It also complements the industry’s own sustainability reporting tools.

Among the first official ski resort partners of White Winters are Levi Ski Resort, Ruka, and Pyhä, all of which have long been engaged in goal-driven sustainability work.

Levi Ski Resort is systematically developing its environmental program by improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy, and electrifying operations.

Ruka and Pyhä are known for their ambitious sustainability initiatives, including Green Key–certified accommodations, 100% renewable electricity, biodiesel-powered slope machines, electric snowmobiles, and energy- and water-efficient snow management and property solutions.

White Winters – Collaboration for the Future of Winter Sports

Joining the White Winters program strengthens this progress and provides access to international expertise and solutions that help resorts further reduce their environmental impact.

Together, Solved, the Finnish Ski Area Association, Ski Sport Finland, and the Finnish Ski Association are building an internationally significant sustainable winter sports program, positioning Finland as a forerunner.

The initiative also includes leading companies such as Nasdaq, Uber, A-Insinöörit, KPMG, Betolar, Snowsecure, Liski, eSled and Snower, all contributing expertise and solutions to sustainability challenges.

“Finnish ski resorts have been working purposefully on environmental responsibility for years. Our efforts have focused primarily on improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Within the White Winters community, we can now share best practices across the entire industry,” says Harri Lindfors, CEO of the Finnish Ski Area Association.

“White Winters was created to bring winter sports challenges and solutions to the same table. FSAA joining the program significantly strengthens the initiative, as ski resorts have a huge practical impact on what future winters will look like,” says Santtu Hulkkonen, CEO of Solved and Program Director of White Winters.

“Ski resorts are the core of the entire winter sports ecosystem. It’s great to see the Finnish Ski Area Association helping advance White Winters goals also through international ski resort networks,” adds Janne Leskinen, CEO of Ski Sport Finland.
