Ramirent joins the White Winters programme – building more sustainable winter sports behind the scenes

As climate change increasingly challenges the future of winter sports, making events more resource-efficient and resilient is becoming ever more important. Ramirent is joining the international White Winters programme, bringing its expertise in event infrastructure, equipment rental and temporary structures to the collaboration. The partnership highlights how practical solutions behind the scenes can contribute to more sustainable winter sports events.

Winter sports events require extensive infrastructure, from temporary facilities and grandstands to technical equipment, energy and logistics. Planning these efficiently can help reduce environmental impacts while supporting reliable event operations in demanding winter conditions.

“Responsible event production starts at the planning stage. By considering equipment needs, the reuse of structures, transportation and energy consumption as a whole, we can find solutions that benefit both event organisers and the environment. With the rental model, equipment does not remain in use for just one event but can be utilised time and time again,” says Nina Pirinen, Development Manager at Ramirent.

Practical solutions at Ruka Nordic

Ramirent is a partner of Ruka Nordic and is also included in Ruka Nordic's Sustainability Programme for 2026–2030, with expertise in equipment, temporary structures and energy identified as key areas of contribution.

The programme focuses on rental solutions, material reuse, responsible procurement, efficient transportation and energy use. In 2025, Ruka Nordic attracted nearly 30,000 visitors, with an estimated regional economic impact of EUR 4.5 million. The scale of the event highlights the importance of responsible practices and the need to develop them over the long term.

FIS and White Winters pilot brings solutions to the international stage

Ramirent's participation is also connected to a digital platform pilot launched in Finland by White Winters and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The pilot, which began in summer 2026, involves Levi World Cup, Ruka Nordic and Lahti Ski Games, as well as the Finnish Ski Association and Ski Sport Finland.

The platform brings together proven sustainability practices and practical solutions, helping event organisers identify relevant services and partners. Ramirent contributes expertise in equipment rental, temporary structures and resource-efficient event infrastructure.

The pilot is part of a broader effort to strengthen the future of winter sports in a changing climate. White Winters is also working with KPMG and Solved on research into climate adaptation and long-term investment needs in winter tourism.

“Securing the future of winter sports requires collaboration across the entire value chain. Event infrastructure, equipment, energy and logistics are important areas for development. The practical expertise of partners such as Ramirent helps turn sustainability ambitions into concrete action. At the same time, we can develop approaches that can also be applied internationally at other winter sports events,” says Santtu Hulkkonen, CEO of Solved and Programme Director of White Winters

The impact of these efforts can be assessed through factors such as equipment reuse, transportation and energy consumption, helping events make better-informed decisions over time.

Ramirent's solutions are visible at events in the form of grandstands, facilities and other event structures. Through the White Winters collaboration, this practical expertise contributes to the wider effort to make winter sports events more resource-efficient and sustainable.
