White Winters x Lahti Ski Games: Building sustainable winter sports together

The White Winters expert event will be held on Friday, 6 March 2026 as part of the Lahti Ski Games World Cup weekend. The event brings together professionals working in winter sports, sports events, and venue development, sports operators, and innovative companies in Lahti to discuss sustainable solutions for winter sports and future business opportunities.

The White Winters event will examine key sustainability challenges in winter sports, share best practices, and present concrete solutions and new business models, particularly from the perspective of venues and events. The event is part of the White Winters programme, supported by the International Ski Federation (FIS).

The future of winter sports depends on us working together

The operating environment of winter sports is changing rapidly due to climate change and biodiversity loss. White Winters provides a forum where these challenges are tackled in a solution-oriented way and in collaboration with various stakeholders.

“The future of winter sports cannot be solved through individual actions alone, but through long-term and broad collaboration. The White Winters event in Lahti brings together those who have both the responsibility and the opportunity to ensure that competition conditions and events can be preserved for future generations,” says Tomi-Pekka Kolu, Secretary General of the Lahti Ski Games (Salpausselän kisat).

White Winters – an international program focused on solutions

White Winters is an international program developed by Solved and Ski Sport Finland, operating as part of FIS’s sustainability strategy. At the core of the program is a practical approach: winter sports centers and event organizers identify their own concrete challenges, to which the international partner network develops scalable solutions.

The program involves dozens of leading industry players and companies, such as the Finnish Ski Association, Nasdaq, Uber, A-Insinöörit, Betolar, Snowsecure, Liski, and eSled, bringing together technology, data, infrastructure expertise, and new business models.

“The core of White Winters is the rapid implementation of solutions. We don’t just talk about problems; we build concrete answers together with sports centers, events, and companies. The Lahti Ski Games provides an excellent international stage for this work,” says Santtu Hulkkonen, White Winters program director and sustainability manager for the Lahti Ski Games.

Lahti Ski Games – a model for responsible event development

The Lahti Ski Games has long developed the event’s sustainability through circular economy initiatives, responsible procurement, and energy-efficient solutions. The White Winters event deepens this work and brings international knowledge and best practices into the Lahti competition weekend.

“For us, the Lahti Ski Games is a platform to develop and test solutions that can genuinely reduce the environmental impact of events. The White Winters collaboration brings new perspectives and international expertise to this work,” Hulkkonen notes.

The White Winters event is primarily aimed at professionals interested in the sustainability of cross-country skiing and sports events, as well as developers of venues and sports centres.

Join us to discuss, network, and develop solutions that ensure white winters for the future.
